The attached Parliamentary Question has been put down
by Mr Ben Ford by Private Notice for Oral Answer today.
The Parliamentary Office have asked that the draft reply
should reach them by 1230 pm.
2. I first heard about this Question at 10 am this morning.
We had had no reports from Hong Kong and I therefore put a
call through to Mr Kidd who is acting as Deputy Colonial
Secretary. The information on which the draft answer and the
Notes for Supplementaries are based came from Mr Kidd over the
He emphasized that this was a "minor typhoon"
telephone.
He said that the position had looked bad at one time but that
the typhoon had in the end passed to the North-East of the
Colony. He could not tell me whether anybody had been killed
or not.
