SUGGESTIONS AND OPINIONS WERE SOUGHT ON THE FOLLOWING MATTERS

(1) Translation of existing Hong Kong laws into Chinese.

(2) Publication of new Hong Kong laws in Chinese.

(3) The use of spoken Chinese in court proceedings, including the use of spoken Chinese

by the judicial officer presiding.

(4) The necessity and practicability of simultaneous translation in court proceedings for

the benefit of the parties as well as the public.

(5) The use of written Chinese in such documents as:

(i) Records

(ii) Forms

(iii) Judgments and orders

(iv) Correspondence with members of the public

(v) Internal correspondence and inter-departmental correspondence

(vi) Signboard and notices.

(6) The acceptance of documentary evidence in Chinese without certified translation in

English.

(7) Any other material aspect which may be relevant.
