Agreement between the European Economic Community and

Hong Kong concerning trade in Cotton Textiles

Preamble:

Article 1 Extent of application

Article 2 General provisions

Article 3 Ceilings

Conscious of the importance of and necessity for the orderly

development of world trade in cotton textiles and in conformity

with the provisions of the Long Term Arrangement regarding

trade in cotton textiles (hereinafter called the Geneva

Arrangement) and in particular with Article 4, the Hong Kong

Government and the European Economic Community, in a spirit of

mutual co-operation have agreed the following provisions:-

This present Agreement applies to all cotton textiles originating

in and coming from Hong Kong described in the Annex to the

present Agreement.

For the duration of the present Agreement and by virtue of the

provisions contained therein or annexed thereto, the E.E.C.

undertakes not to introduce new quantitative restrictions or

to suspend the applications of those which it now has enforced

and agrees not to have recourse to the provisions of Article 3

of the Geneva Arrangement so far as imports into the E.E.C.

of cotton textiles originating and coming from Hong Kong do not

exceed the agreed quantities.

The Hong Kong Government undertakes to take appropriate measures,

so that the agreed ceilings are respected and to cooperate with

the E.E.C. in the application of measures which are recognised

to be necessary for this end.

(a) Global Ceiling

The agreed global quantity for the period of validity is

fixed at 12,700 metric tons.
