THE Governor, Sir David Trench, 'could be heading for a confrontation with political policymakers in London when he flies to Britain in October.

The Governor will then have his first face-to-face ⚫consultations with the "new men" in the Conservative Government.

some

And there could .be fireworks over :proposals which are the stated aims of Hongkong's ""watchdog" in the British Government, Mr. Anthony Royle.

During his last visit here, Mr. Royle stated bluntly he thought an ombudsman would be a good thing for Hongkong.

+

Sir David is known to be extremely opposed to the establishment of an ombudsman in Hongkong, and has stated publicly the job of an ombudsman can be carried out within the present frame of the public service.

+

Other major items which observers in London think

will be on the agenda at Sir David's meetings with senior Government officials include:

The general question of relations between Britain and China and the part Hongkong and the Hongkong Government have to play in these relations.

The economic sutlook for Hongkong during the current financial year.

Sir David will spend about seven weeks in Britain, but some of this time will be taken up by a short period of leave.

It seems certain the outcome of the talks between Sir David and the Conservative rulers of Britain

and, indirectly, Hongkong

I will have an impact on the development of the Colony in the next few years.

But it is doubtful if any radical changes will be made to the basic pragmatic policies which have successfully been followed in recent years.
