Criticism of the Budget
Demands for free primary education, greater rehousing effort, an improved social welfare system and more technical training facilities have been made by the unofficial members of the Legislative Council during the debate on the 1970/71 budget.

Primary Education
A few Members of Parliament have be en pressing for the introduc- tion of free and/or compulsory primary education.
7. Labour Questions
Officials of the UK Textile Trade Unions and a few Members of Parliament have been critical of the new arrangements permitting the employment of women on night work. The records of meetings with some trade union officials and Members of Parliament are attached, The main question is how can the non-communist trade union movement be strengthened.
