A Government spokesman explained today
that the London Office has gradually acquired
additional responsibilities and a recent
examination of Government's existing arrangements
in London showed a need for unified direction and
control.

The presence in London of a senior
officer with wide experience and knowledge of
Government's views and policies will be of
great advantage to the Government in Hong Kong as
well as of help to the Foreign and Commonwealth
Office in London.

A commitment that has grown rapidly in
recent years has been the large scale
dissemination of factual information on Hong Kong.
This commitment continues to be important and the
London Office has become the recognised outlet
and agency in Britain of the Information Services
Department in Hong Kong.

The first Administrative Commissioner
for the Government of Hong Kong in London is
Mr P.C.M. Sedgwick, CMG, who will be succeeded
on 1 September 1969 by Mr A.M.J. Wright, CMG,
formerly Hong Kong's Director of Public Works.
