(ii) to provide a point in London for
direct contact between Hong Kong and
the various departments of the British
Government which deal with affairs of
concern to the Colony. This point of
contact will augment the existing links
between Hong Kong and the Foreign and
Commonwealth Office.
The reorganized London Office will
continue to review all commercial, economic and
industrial developments in Britain as well as
official British thinking on worldwide trade
policies. It will advise the Hong Kong Government
on likely repercussions of these developments.
6
The Office will also disseminate
information on Hong Kong, co-ordinate the
Government's public relations activities in
Britain and look after the interests of Hong Kong
residents and students in the United Kingdom.
7
The activities of the London Office, first
set up in 1946, became increasingly identified
with Hong Kong's trading requirements and
responsibility for its administration was
transferred in 1955 from the Colonial Secretariat
to the Commerce and Industry Department.
