ESTABLISHMENT CIRCULAR NO. 35/69
Equal Pay for Women
(Note: This circular should be read by all officers concerned with the payment of women officers' salaries and all serving women officers.)
*******
The purpose of this circular is to announce certain decisions concerning the implementation of the scheme for achieving equal pay for women officers in the Public Service.
GRADES AFFECTED
2.
In accordance with the accepted principle that where men and women are doing identical work, or similar work of virtually equal value, both should be paid the same salary, it has been decided that women serving in the grades listed in Enclosure 1 to this circular shall be included in the scheme for equal pay.
It has also been decided that women serving in the grades listed in Enclosure 2 to this circular shall be excluded from the scheme for equal pay. The position of those grades which are listed in Enclosure 3 is still under con- sideration.
IMPLEMENTATION DATE
3.
It has also been decided that equal pay for women in those grades which are included in the scheme will be achieved by annual stages, starting with effect from the 1st April 1969, with the objective of achieving parity on and from the 1st April 1975. It is not possible to talk in terms of exactly equal annual stages, as the operation is virtually certain to be overtaken by revisions of salary and regradings in the intervening period. Any future decisions concerning those grades which are still under consideration for equal pay will also be implemented with effect from 1st April 1969.
REVISED SALARY SCALES
4.
Revised salary scales for women officers in those grades which have been included in the scheme are set out in
