Further examination of the deferred grades is now proceeding as rapidly as possible and I hope to be able to put proposals in respect of teachers to the Staff Associations for consideration in the fairly near future.

Consideration is also now being given to the conditions on which the bar to the appointment of married women on normal contract or pensionable terms can be withdrawn, together with various associated differentials in conditions of service, such as maternity leave, and I hope to be able to put firm proposals on this aspect to the Staff Associations for their consideration next year.

In conclusion, this petition appears to be ill-timed as the extremely complex matters with which it deals are either still under consideration or are the subject of consultation
with the Staff Associations. However, I shall suggest a draft X
reply for your consideration as soon as possible.
