and commenced the construction of a new 11-storey, fully

air-conditioned factory building providing 160,000 square

feet of manufacturing space. Expenditure on the land and

building totalled HK$6,427,975.00 and total expenditure as

at 31st December 1968 (the date to which the last available

balance sheet was made up) on plant, equipment, furniture

and fixtures amounted to HK$20,574,437.00. The new building,

the postal address of which is 135, Hoi Bun Road, Kwun Tong,

was officially opened in March 1966.

A book of photographs showing the Company's

building and conditions of work therein is annexed to

this Memorandum as Attachment No.1.

The Company currently employs over 5,000 employees

on two full shifts, namely:

(a)

Day shift

7 a.m. to 2.50 p.m.

(b)*

Swing shift

-

3.10 p.m. to 11.00 p.m.

with a partial "graveyard shift" of approximately 150

males from 11.00 p.m. to 7 a.m.

All daily operators on the day and swing shifts

are females and the Company's experience both in Hong

Kong and elsewhere shows that female labour is superior

and essential for this type of manufacture.

Over the past four years, the Company has had an

average of over 4,000 local employees and has paid out to local employees in payroll alone over HK$48,500,000.00. The

current monthly payroll is in the region of HK$1,200,000.00.
