The Company is currently negotiating for 45,000
square feet of additional manufacturing space in the new
building under construction on the adjoining site and
hopes to expand its activities and to increase its work
force to nearly 7,000.
The manufacture of semiconductor devices neces-
sarily requires a large investment in expensive capital
equipment and the cost of amortization of this equipment
is a very material factor in the economics of semiconductor
production.
9.
The Company has a manufacturing plant in Korea
As set out in
and is establishing a plant in Singapore.
Attachments Nos.III and IV to this Memorandum referred
to below, night work for women is prohibited in those
countries unless authorised by the relevant Authority.
The Company's subsidiary in Korea has received such autho-
risation and currently employs over 500 women on night
shift work commencing at 2200 hours and ending at 0555
hours. The Company has further received an indication
that similar permission will be forthcoming for its opera-
tion in Singapore.
The Semiconductor Division of the Parent Company
in the United States, whose employees perform exactly the
same operations as those performed by the Company's employees
in Hong Kong, have for many years been operating night shifts
from 11.00 p.m. to 7 a.m. at several locations in the States
