Sedition Contrary to Section 4(1)(c) Sedition Ord. Cap. 217. This offence related to the publication by the newspaper on the 3rd August 1967 of an article stating that the newspaper had received a letter from 2 patriotic civil servants that they had suffered exploitation and oppression at the hands of the Hong Kong British Fascist Authorities and that they had now been offered a loyalty bonus of $50 per month, They called on all civil servants to reject the bonus and use concrete deeds to support the anti-persecution struggle.

Sedition Contrary to Section 4(1)(c), Sedition Ord. Cap. 217. This offence related to the publication by the newspaper on the 4th July, 1967 of an article stating that the British white- skinned pigs in the Police Force were getting fiercer and were now hated by the Chinese Police. That the previous day an European Police Officer had fired indiscriminately into a Chinese crowd outside the Lai Chi Kok Branch of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank.

Pleas : All defendants pleaded not guilty

They were found guilty on the 4th September, 1967. The publication of the newspaper was ordered to be suspended with effect from the 17th August, 1967 and suppressed for a period of 6 months with effect from 4th September, 1967.

Sentences:

1.

was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment on each charge. The sentences on charges a,b and c to run consecutively and the sentences on charges d,e and f to run concurrently. All to run concurrently to the charges in respect of the Afternoon News. Total 3 years.

2. Nam Cheong Printing Co. Ltd. was fined $2,000 on each summons.
