The Staff Sergeant, when questioned, denied all knowledge of the arrected agents, but admitted an acquaint- ance with the businocomon, whom he stated he had not soon sinco tho war; ho later admittod that ho had met him once in the street in June, 1961. Of the four arrested agents who implicated the Staff Sergeant, three subsequently identified him on a formal identification parade.

The Staff Sergeant was interdicted on the 16th November, 1961. Ile ras charged with a total of nine discip- linary offences, and the hearing of the case was concludod on the 8th January, 1962. The adjudicating officer found
Tho him not guilty on five charges and guilty on four. findings were accepted by me, and his reduction to Constable and dismissal wore offccted on 28th February, 1962.

(J) Cap 232 - in the course of duty making a statement falso in a material particular, in that on the 16th November, 1961, ho doniod to the Deputy Director, Special Branch, that he had any knowledgo of four arrested Kuomintang agents.

prejudice of good order and discipline in that he knowingly associated with Kuomintang agents between July and November, 1961, otherwise than in the courco of duty.
The evidence upon which these convictions WoZo bacod, albeit in part the evidence of men themselves accused and in the character of accomplices, and which had to bo regarded with extreme caution, was convincing beyond ar reasonable degree of doubt; in the circumstances, dismissal was the only possible penalty.
