We have included in the exchange of letters the reference to consultation about bacon quotas which appeared in earlier agreed minutes. Does this add anything to what is elready in the Bacon Understanding? If not perhaps we

could omit this.

We have omitted the reference to provision for consultation in the event of quotas being reimposed on United Kingdom imports of canned and mottled apples on this we think is covered by paragraph 4 of the drift Agreed Minute. event it scers somewhat oddly drafted by comparison with the paragraphs on butter and domestic conl.

I should be grateful for early comments upon the enclosed drafts and in any event by September 22nd. I am copying this letter and enclosures to Pattisson (Power), Jeffrey Smith (MAFF), Steven (Foreign Office EFL Dept.), Morrice (330) and within the Board to Forster (Import Licensing Branch), Rogers (CRE 1), Muir (CR 1) and Woodhead (IM 3). Copies also go to Gaminara (CRC) and within the Board to Mingay (IM 3), and Steel (FRB) together with copies of the earlier correspondence.

Yours sincerely,

P.M.. Corley
