Addressed to Peking telegram No. 20 of 13 January Repeated for information POLAD Singapore and Commonwealth Office.

It is just possible that an R.A.F. Whirlwind helicopter crossed the border between Man Kam To and Lowu at about 1250 today. The pilot, who is not new to the area says that he had the border fence in view during the flight and could not have crossed the border. To observers on the ground it appeared that he did just cross the border and that a shot may have been fired from the Chinese side. If so, the helicopter was not hit. The pilot had no knowledge of this incident. We shall let you know if any more conclusive evidence is produced.

Foreign Office please pass Immediate Peking as my telegram No. 20.
