GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONG KONG.
22 June, 1967.
(11)
No: 1162.
Sir,
I have the honour to refer to the correspondence resting with my letter (18) in SCR 2/1136/58 II dated 20th April 1967 to Sir Arthur Galsworthy on the subject of nominated appointments to the Legislative Council, and to inform you that the appointments of the following Unofficial Members will expire on the 30th June 1967:
2.
Mr. LI Fook-shu, OBE. Mr. SZETO Wai, OBE.
Mr. Wilfred WONG Sien-bing, OBE. Mr. G.R. Ross
Mr. F.S. LI has served for 5 years on the Legislative Council and is also a Member of the Executive Council. I consider it desirable to maintain a link of at least two Executive Councillors who serve also on the Legislative Council, and accordingly recommend that Mr. LI be re-appointed for another two years.
3.
Messrs. SZETO and WONG will have served for only one term of two years as substantive Members and, as both are giving useful service, I propose that both be re-appointed for a further period of two years.
4.
With regard to Mr. Ross, who is the current representative of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber was invited to nominate a representative for appointment to this vacancy. The Council again nominated Mr. Ross; I accordingly recommend that he be re-appointed for a further year.
5.
The appointments of the following Official Members will also expire on 30th June:
Mr. A.M.J. Wright, CMG.
Dr. TENG Pin-hui, CMG, OBE.
Mr. W.D. Gregg
Mr. R.M. Hetherington, DFC. Mr. A. Todd
Mr. T.D. Sorby
Mr. G.M. Tingle
Mr. K.S. Kinghorn
I recommend that the above eight Official Members be re-appointed for a further year.
6*
I now seek Her Majesty's approval of these proposed appointments and should be grateful if Her Majesty's pleasure could be communicated to me by telegram before 30th June 1967.
