Generating sets
Generating sets manufactured by Grahame Puttick have outputs from 10 to 190 KVA. The power system of these Pumalite sets combines en- gine and generator to form one strong structure with the generator frame flanged and spigotted to the engine flywheel housing. The inherent rigidi- ty of this system makes a conven- tional base frame unnecessary. The drive is cushioned by a flexible coupling.
Dorman, Ford and Standard- Triumph diesel engines may be fitted. All are radiator-cooled by pump and fan with controlling thermostat, and the system is designed throughout for tropical conditions.
The alternator is of self-regulating design with integral static transformer-

rectifier excitation. There is no com- mutator or brushgear to require re- gular maintenance and adjustment. Output voltage is automatically re- gulated with + or 212 per cent. of the pre-set value at all loads.

Excavator
Available as a backhoe. shovel or grab, the Priestman Beaver hydraulic excavator has a 1⁄2 cu. yd. reversible bucket and a cross-ram digging grab with a rotary head.
Swivel link connection allows the backhoe bucket to be quickly revers- ed for use as a shovel, and by retract- ing the two-piece boom and reposi-

tioning the arm ram, the tooth effort is increased. Shovel buckets up to 34 cu. yd. may be fitted.
As a grab the Beaver has a closing jaw pressure of 15 tons. The cross- ram grab, suitable for off-set trench- ing or deep square excavations, can be accurately placed using a hydraulic rotation device. There are three sizes of interchangeable shells.
For the long boom equipment the design permits fitting twin rope drums and boom suspension by luffing ropes, without disturbing the hydraulic com- ponents.
The ground pressure of the ma- chine is kept below 4 lb. per sq. in. by a large crawler base and track plates 30 in. wide. Dragline buckets up to 1⁄2 cu. yd. may be fitted and the maximum operating radius is 31 ft. Alternative throttle positions are pro- vided for hydraulic and long boom equipments.
A cross-roll slewing ring interlocks the superstructure and crawlers and maintains alignment of gearing and shafts.
The power unit may be a Lister HB4 air-cooled or Ford 592. E water-cooled four-cylinder diesel en- gine. both developing 48 b.h.p. at 2,000 rev min. Engine speed at 2,000 rev/ min. gives a swing speed of 8.6 rev min. and travel speed of 1.3 m.p.h. For long boom work engine speed is 1,500 rev/min, giving a 6.5 rev min. swing speed and travel speed of 1 m.p.h.

Lighting fittings
A selection of Atlas lighting fittings is shown. This includes fluorescent fittings, control gear and incandescent lighting.
Prominently displayed is the Atlas. Super Slim (Popu lar Pack) fluores- cent fitting together with a range of diffusers suitable for numerous at- tachments. Among the Modern Range fittings is the Chelsa and Crystal Glass and the 3-way pen- dant lamps. The example of the 3- way pendant illus- trated here is of satin opal glass.

cylinder engines of Vee configuration with outputs up to 700 b.h.p. and the Eagle range comprises three in-line six-cylinder automotive engines of 205, 220 and 260 b.h.p.
Turbo-charged Rolls-Royce diesels are widely used in the earthmoving industry to power such vehicles as the Foden dump truck illustrated.

Bathroom fittings
The Shanks range of bathroom fittings includes the Clarendon bath and washbasin. Both are styled on gently-curved moulded lines and are offered with special fittings, featuring non-rising spindles, coloured discs in

the taps to indicate hot and cold, and a matching pop-up waste control.
Made of porcelain-enamelled iron, the bath incorporates a sloping front ledge, which makes it easier to enter, and a flattened bottom, to increase comfort and safety. Taps and pop- up waste control are placed on the side, within easy reach of the bather. Measuring 6 ft. long by 2 ft. 8 in. wide by either 1 ft. 8 in. or ft. 11 in. high, it can be supplied for mounting against a back wall, a right- or left-hand corner, or in a three- sided recess.
Standard fittings include adjustable feet, glass-fibre-reinforced panels, and a handrail on the ledge at the back of the bath.
The vitreous-china Clarendon washbasin comes in two overall sizes; 24 by 20 in. and 27 by 22 in. Both have surrounding surfaces designed to drain into the bowl.
