Various additions to the original premises, consisting of the changing halls, the building of more and larger over and enlarging of the betting

The interest of the public was of course also catered to in the installa- tion of the pari-mutuel machines, the photo-finish camera, and other de- vices designed to protect the interests of the bettors.

The health and care of the ponies who play such a big part in stimulat- ing interest and pleasure in the sport has necessitated the erection of more stable space, and the building of stables at Fanling and on Mt. Butler for the purpose of giving the ponies a change from the daily grind at the race course itself were further steps in this programme.

In the meantime, fairly extensive additions were made to the trainers' quarters and other staff premises but the tremendous increase in the num- bers of mafoos made the problem of providing them with accomodation a very acute one. The matter of the erection of quarters for these mafocs has been under consideration for quite a time but the problem of ob- taining a suitable site fairly con- venient to the stables and yet suffi- ciently large to permit the erection of the number of buildings required was not one which would admit of an easy and quick solution.
