The second to 13th floors will be available as offices. A spacious duplex penthouse will contain a residence (which Madam Lee pro- poses to occupy) and a mess for the bank staff. The bank again will take threequarters of the overall
area.
Piling work has begun but some troublesome soil conditions have been encountered. Once these have been overcome it is estimated con- struction will occupy 12 months.
A striking feature of the external design of the building is an Oriental motif, which will be executed in tiles recessed in the wall fronting Des Voeux Road. The Oriental influence will be carried into the entrance lobby where there will be Chinese carvings in the walls.
Site of the building, which will comprise 17 storeys plus basement, is I.L. 2180 and Sec. B. Sec. C. and R.P. of L.L. 2179, at 29, 31, 33, 35. 37 Des Voeux Road Central. building area is 5.381 sq.ft.

Another high office building is to be erected next to the United Chinese Bank Building, on the former On Lok Yuen site.
However, an
area of 17 ft. between these two buildings has not yet been committed to any purpose. It is owned by the Siberian Fur Company.
