THE New Territories Magistracy at the Fanling Crossroads was opened on 2 September by the Chief Justice of Hong Kong, Sir Michael Hogan, and is now in full use.

Designed by Palmer and Turner, who were responsible for the new Kowloon and Causeway Bay Magis- tracies, the new building will give facilities under one roof for the growing legal and administrative business of the New Territories.

Built at a cost of approximately $11,500,000, including the cost of airconditioning the court rooms, the Magistracy is a two-storey building finished in Shanghai plaster on a plinth of local granite, and has a commanding position in good grounds at the crossroads in Fanling

In addition to the Magistracy itself there are on the site (and in- cluded in the total cost) two blocks
