In view of the inadequate power supply in Canton and other cities in northern Kwangtung, the National Hydro- electric Engineering Bureau of the National Resources Commission, China, plans to build a hydroelectric station on the Wong Kiang River in Yingtak. After over two and a half years of investigation, planning and design the project will go into construction in the very near future.
The investigation and planning work was carried out by Mr. W. Szeto, Senior Planning Engineer of the Bureau, while the design of the dam, power station and other structures were made by the Design Section of the same organization.
The project will be built in two stages at a cost of US$13,000,000.00 for the first stage and about US$7,000,000.00 for the ultimate stage when the dam will be raised fourteen metres in height. Installed capacity for the initial stage will be 40,000 KW. This capacity will be doubled in the ultimate development.
