PLENTY OF 'BREATHING SPACE' IN NEW
CASTLE PEAK SCHOOL
Architect: K. H. Chau of Chau and Lee
NY new schools are welcome in
Hong Kong. A school that provides "breathing space" in the way of adequate playgrounds and other recreation facilities is a rare luxury.
In about seven months time, the Hong Kong Council of The Church of Christ in China will have such a school set on a 13.000 square feet site at Tuen Mun San Hui (D.D.131).
The Council was fortunate enough to have the land formerly occupi- reclassified for the erection of a non-profitmaking school.

With such a large amount of space and with such an open rural setting. hardly any building would fail to hit into place.
However the architect has made full use of the situation and the com- pleted buildings will not just simply

draw effect from the surroundings but will add to them.
The new school. to be known as the Ho Fuk Tong Anglo-Chinese Secondary School. will consist of four buildings.
The major one, a five storey “L” shaped structure having a total length of 224 feet, will house 20 classrooms each seating 40 students. laboratories and preparation rooms for physics, biology and chemistry classes, a domestic science and sewing room section with a "home living" area incorporated, an art room and a music room.
The classrooms, served by a long, side corridor on each floor, will be situated in the long wing. The laboratories and other departments will be in the smaller wing.
Adjoining it at one end to form a "Z" shape will be a one storey assem- bly hall with a seating capacity of 600.
