for containerization facilities is given in Table 1.

The buildings, warehouses and gen- erally the whole area is well served by a network of roads which are connect- ed to the public roads. Railway tracks (metre guage) have been laid to all tran- sit sheds and most of the godowns and on a section of the wharf apron for direct loading on to railway wagons.

Extensive mechanisation is provided at the deep water wharves. Mobile cranes 2 to 10 tons capacity, forklift trucks, Scammel heads and trailers are standard. A heavy lift crane up to 40 tons capacity is available by arrange- ment with the Malayan Railways.

Provision has been made on the aprons for container cranes which will be needed when container traffic be- comes one of the chief modes of goods handling.

Electricity

High voltage power at 11 kV is sup- plied by underground cable to the main No.1 port sub-station from which all distribution to the reclaimed area is supplied at 415/230 Volts, 3 phase, 50 Hz through 500 kVA transformer. Lighting columns 30 ft. high, with mer- cury vapour lanterns are installed for road lighting generally.

Feeder pillars are located at con- venient load centres for power distri- bution to the main buildings work- shops and pumping installations. There is a central air-conditioning plant of 110 tons refrigeration capacity, elec- trically driven and automatically con- trolled, installed in the main adminis- trative building.

From the main No.1 sub-station high voltage supply is also carried to No.2 sub-station on the wharf for Berths 1, 2 and 3, and will be extended to No.3 sub-station for Berths 4 and 5 shortly. Each sub-station is of 500 KVA capacity with provision for in- creasing to 1000 kVA.
