Pedestrian bridge across New Bridge Road

per decks give the effect of spacious- ness, which the pedestrian seldom feels elsewhere in overcrowded Chinatown. From the ground floor concourse, the voids also define the various shopping decks and assist the shopper to select his route around the building.

In addition to the numerous stair- cases, the main access to the upper floors is by means of escalators which are placed under the voids along the main entrance to the concourse in or der to heighten the effects of space and movement into the upper shop- ping decks. A pedestrian bridge at the first floor level across the main road is provided to facilitate movement and create a flow towards the shopping facilities on the first floor.

Tower block

The complex consists of a rectan- gular block of four storeys with multi- level parking facilities at each end and a 31-storey residential tower rising above the roof-garden of the lower block. The tower, now nearing com- pletion, is a reinforced concrete struc. ture of cross-wall construction.
