* Approved by Special Warrant during the year.
The additional staff approved by Special Warrant during 1961-62 were for a new laundry at Lai Chi Kok Prison and a Deportee and Detainee Section which were put into operation during the year. The additional posts of 1 Typist and 1 Clerical Assistant are required to cope with the increased volume of clerical and typing work. One supernumerary Trade Instructor is absorbed into the permanent establishment as his services are required permanently to provide trade training in occupational therapy classes now run in the Psychiatric Observation Unit, and in hospitals at Stanley, Victoria and Tai Lam Prisons.
The decrease in provision under Other Charges Annually Recurrent is mainly attributable to a decrease in provision for prisoners' earnings.
Under Special Expenditure, provision is included for the purchase and installation of an addi- tional washing machine and a standby boiler for the Lai Chi Kok Prison Laundry and replacement machinery for Stanley Prison Workshop. Provision is also made for transport for staff at Cape Collinson Training Centre where no public transport is available.
