* Approved by Special Warrant during the year.

One new post of Assistant Printing Officer replaces one post of Clerk in accordance with regrading of existing posts. One Proof Reader, one Copy Holder, one Clerk, two Lithographers and two Labourers are required to cope with increased volume of work; one Senior Linotype Operator for the opera- tion of a Monotype Keyboard; and two Punch and Verifier Operators for the newly established Hollerith Punched Card Unit.

The increase of $271,300 under Other Charges Annually Recurrent is mainly due to expansion of activities in all departments.

Under Special Expenditure, provision for 1 automatic double press, 1 automatic guillotine, 1 double sider disc ruler and 1 multi-duty punching machine is included as replacement for existing equipment now obsolete. The acquisition of the 2 automatic feeders with numbering boxes is to enable operation of numbering machines to be done efficiently by one operator in lieu of two as is the case at present. Provision is also included for a lithographic proof press and densitometer for the reproduction of proofs, short runs, and quality colour work; and for a Monotype Keyboard and Caster for the mechanical typesetting section of the department to meet an increasing volume of work.
