Approved by Special Warrant during the year.
The post of Cadet Officer, together with one post of Confidential Assistant, was shown last year under Head 42A. The Housing Architect and his supporting staff form the nucleus of an architectural section; these posts were approved during the year. The Housing Manager and the Assistant Housing Manager are required to take charge of the North Point Estate, and the Cadogan Street Estate when it is completed. The additional posts of Executive Officer and Confidential Assistant are required to cope with the increase in work consequent on the Authority's increased activities. The Senior Housing Assistant is to take charge of the Applications Section.
The Clerks of Works are all required for duty on the So Uk Estate, when construction commences there. The Head Caretaker is employed on the North Point Estate, together with five extra porters: the other twelve porters will be required for duty on the Cadogan Street Estate. The additional messenger is needed in the Head Office.
The establishment in the 1957/58 Estimates was only partially filled, principally because of delays encountered on sites. It is not possible to make an accurate forecast of the date of recruitment for some of the new posts, as this is related to progress on building construction. The gross salaries of the personnel of the Housing Division (with the exception of the Cadet Officer and one Confidential Assistant), who comprise the staff of the Hong Kong Housing Authority, plus a 30% surcharge to cover overheads, are reimbursed to Government by the Authority.
