Expenditure under this Head is partially offset by revenue in the form of loans and grants receivable from H. M. Government. With recent grants the Colonial Government has been required to have a financial stake in schemes benefitting from C. D. & W. funds. The exact percentage varies and can be ascertained in each case from the footnote to the Estimates. Receipts are accounted for under Revenue Head 11.
Site development for low cost housing at So Uk (Scheme No. 2990)
Site formation for this scheme, the largest so far undertaken by the Housing Authority, will be completed in April, 1958 and it is hoped to commence construction soon after.

Progress in the construction of roads has been satisfactory. The approved estimate of $480,000 for four piers will now only cover the cost of the piers at Tap Mun and Kat-O on both of which work has commenced. The balance of funds available on the approved estimate for irrigation schemes has been utilised for completion of Shek Pi Tau Lower Dam.
Aeronautical Telecommunications (Scheme D2594)
The installation of equipment for conversion of the Hong Kong/Tokyo circuit to Diplex operation has been completed, but the service has not yet been inaugurated. The equip- ment required for a tape-relay system to replace the present teletype machines is still under consideration.
