In Colony For 1939
The Superintendent of Imports and Exports reports that, accord- Ing to an index number constructed at the Statistical Office, whole- sale prices in the Colony of Hongkong, during the year 1939, showed general average decreases of 2 per cent., as compared with 1938, and 2.4 per cent as compared with 1937, and increases of 24.2 per cent. as compared with 1936, and 28 per cent, as compared with the base period of 1922.

Foodstuffs in 1939 Increased by 2.5 per cent., as compared with 1938; decreased by 1"per cent. as compared with 1937; and increased. by 19.1 per cent. as compared with 1936; and 349 per cent, as comi- pared with 1923.
TEXTILES
Textiles decreased by 8.5 per cent, as compared with 1938, and 9.8 per cent, as compared with 1937; and, increased by 6.8 per cent, as compared with 1938, and 6.2 per cent. as compared with 1922,
METALS AND MINERALS
Metals and Minerals decreased by 1.8 per cent. as compared with 1938, and 0.8 per cent, as compared with 1837; and increased by 35.3 per cent. as compared with 1936, and 45.0 per cent., as compared with $922.
MISCELLANEOUS
Miscellaneous Articles decreased by 1.1 per cent, as compared with 1938, and increased by 1.2 per cent. as compared with 1937, 38.1 per cent. as compared with 1936, and 25.9 per cent, as compared with
