Matthew and Lake both trace the descent of Jesus from the patriarch Abraham through David. St. Luke even goes back to Seth the son of Adam the son of God. There are several differences in these two genealogies but that is to be expected. when the writers use different methods and ferent documents and accounts. The significant thing. In view of Joseph's pre-hatal repudiation of Jesus, is the fact that both writers trace the descent through Jesus!!

assert But the strangest" feature is that both Evangelists who give accounts of the birth of Jesus both agree that he was the son of Joseph and Mary. "Matthew tells us that the people of Nazareth said, "Is not this, the carpenter's sor, and his mother, is she not here with us?" St. Luke calls Joseph and Mary the "parents" of Jesus. When he was found in the Temple Mary tells him "Thy father and I sought thee sorrowing." In The Early Church, there were two views of the parentage of Jesus. One held that Joseph was his earthly father, the other that God was his only father and his birth was miraculous. Obviously, both these views could not be accepted literally at the same time. One or other had to be interpreted sym- bolickily. In a spiritual sense. For many years they existed side by side. Justin Martyr (A.D. 150) himself a strong believer in the virgin birth, speaks of Christians who do not share his belief as "be- llevers in Christ the Messiah. The view of the present writer is based on the fact that nowhere in the New Testament is the reality of Jesus Christ made dependent upon a virgin birth.

This Supreme Person--how did he enter the human world? That question has long engaged the study and attention of saints and theologians. That Jesus came by a virgin birth, out of the ordinary course of nature," is definitely stated by Matthew. I that the truth? The Christian Church Generally turned to the belief in the virgin birth as to a view that was unique harmony with the supreme position of Christ among men. Most of the Christian writers of the second and third century ad- here to it. It was not indeed em- bodled in the Nicene Creed (A.D.

NEGUS APPEALS TO WORLD CHURCHES

"No Aid Is Given To My People"

'Hallo Selusale of Ethiopia. ap pealing recently to "the Christian Churches of the World" on behalf of Abyssinians, declared:

"I ask leaders and members to express their horror and condem- nation of the sufferings imposed on my people and to ald us with their prayers so that the abom- inable outrages permitted

and condoned by the Italian Govern- ment may be brought to an end." 'Charges are levelled against the Italian Army, including those of the murder of hundreds of men, women and children by individual Italian soldiers, execution of thou- sands after summary trial, the torture of prisoners, the execution of Ras Destą and other prisoners of war, and forced prostitution of thousands of unmairled women and young widows.

Haile Selassie also alleges out- rages against religious beliefs and customs and cites the killing of priests and Muslim sheika, and "the" "dental" Christian burial—to the victims of executions and general massacres.
