All Countries

Manuk Lodge of the Theosophical Under the auspices of the society, Mr. C. Jinarajadasa spoke yesterday evening at Gloucester Hotel on "Theosophy, a science of reconstruction for the individual and the world."

Mrs. O. M. Parkinson, M.A., the President of the Lodge, introduced

the lecturer, who referred to the economic chaos in all countries and to the spirit of restlessness in all departments of life. This he held was due to the lack of a co-ordination between religion, science, art, economics and poli- tics. Each was in a water-tight compartment separated from all the others. This reacted on the individual, producing in him a dissatisfaction with existing con- ditions without teaching him how to mend them.

Religion proclaimed man was a soul and that there was a spiritual realm. But religion had no ex- planation for the vast problems of matter which science investigated. On the other hand science, while conferring on man innumerable

benefits, held nature was a me- chanical process with no spiritual basis and that man ended at the

death

of his body. Art had a wonderful message interpreting the meaning of life. but had no interest in the problem of man's wellbeing of his eternal life. Politics was separated completely from ethics.

ANNUAL PRIZE DAY

Diocesan Junior School

The Diocesan G.rls' Junior School held their annual prize giving ceremony at Kowloon Tong yesterday when Mrs. T. H. King distributed the awards.

In presenting the Report Mrs, F. C. Hayward, Headmistress, said:

"""Our numbers have increased considerably during the school year. At the beginning of the year in September, our numbers totalled 43 and increased steadily to 85 in April. Since then owing to the usual Home leave in Sum- mer our numbers have dropped to 59, thus showing an increase of 37 per cent. during the whole year.

"As perhaps you know our ac- commodation upstairs was far from adequate and with the in- crease in numbers it became even more so. Fortunately for us the Church moved into their new premises in February and the school was able to take over the whole house from April 1st.
