CONVICTED

Fined For Theft Of Bicycle

Fusiller J Bibby, of the Welch Royal Fusiliers statioped at Shum- soupo cump, pleaded guilty to the charge of larceny by ballee of a okycie when he appeared before: Mr. E. Himsworth at the Kowloon Magistracy Saturday:'.

Tung Wing-hong," master of the Fei Ying shop, to whom the bicycle belonged said that defendant "had "lost one of his bicycles a few days ago and had promised to return another. On Tuesday evening, de- fendant brought in a bicycle in re turn for the one he had lost. On,

In time King Wai was so fl-ad-examination witness found that the vised and misled by the false re- vehicle was a stolen one because ports of the selfish and deceitful there were scrape marks on the ministers that he began to lose mudguards. He notified the police confidence in his favourite minds who had learned that the Fei Lung ter Wat Yuen, whose influence with bicycle shop had lost а the King began gradually to de- bicycle

а few days previous cline.

Investigations were carried out and it was found

that the bicycle was in fact the property of the Fel Lung shop, No. 74. Henessy Road, Wanchal, from where defen- dant bad hired the ma- chine

prior to his arrest. The fokis of "the Fei Lung shop recognised defendant as be- ing the one who came into the shop and hired a bicycle for two hours.

Defendant was aned $30. Detective Sergt Wallingford prosecuted.

After some time certain traitorous ministers of the Chor State con- spired with certain ambitious and scheming officials of the Tsun State to conquer and absorb the Chor State, but their treacherous plans were easily seen through by Min- Ister. Wat Yuen, who thrice warn- ed King Wal not to declare war against the Tsun State, owing to the weakness and unpreparedness of the armies of the Chor State.

WAR DETERMINATION But King Wal who always plan- ned to take revenge against the King of the Tsun State, refused to listen to his advice, and was de termined to declare war against his enemy.

On seeing that King Wai was 50 Stubborn, Minister Wat Yuen be- Beved that it was useless to further remonstrate with his king. He thereupon resigned his office and being disheartened and disappoint ed. he clasped a big piece of stone to his bosom, and jumped into the Pck River near Changsha Fu of Hunan Province on the fifth day of the fifth moon, and drowned him- self.

After the death of the patriotic and loyal Minister Wat Yuen, King Wai declared war against his enemy: the King of the Tsun State, and was badly defeated. Over 80,000 soldiers of the Chor Siate were slain and a large piece of territory at Han Chung, was oc- cupled by the victorious troops of

the Teun State.

When the war was over, and in memory of the patriotic and loyal Minister Wat" Yuen. the people of the Chor State assembled every year in boats on the fifth day of the fifth moon in the Pok River,

and cast into the water dum- plings" made of rice, fruit, etc... as an offering to the demons of

the river to spare the body of the faithful and devoted Wat Yuen. Thus has Wat Tuen's patriotismi and the Festival of the fifth day of the Afth moon been handed down to the future generations.. of China.
