Financial Resolutions Dealt With

London, June 11,

The House of Commons fulfilled to-day an unusally heavy pro- gramme of bustness for Friday. Three Dnancial resolutions were passed, the first of which related to the extension of export credit facilities. The Secretary for Over- seas Trade Mr. R. S. Hudson, said the experience of the last few years which had seen the total of guarantees rise from £7,500,000 in 1933 to £35,000,000 in 1938, had proved that the Export Credits Guarantee Department, originated in 1919 as an experiment, could now properly, be regarded as part of the permanent trade facilities available to British exporters.

It was proposed to raise the limit of total guarantees to £50,- 000,000 and also to extend the scope in several particulars, he said

The second resolution was for the purpose of authorising the Post Office to borrow up to £35,- 000,000 for development of tele- graph and postal services. In describing the progress which necessitated fresh borrowing the Postmaster-General referred to the success of the concession intro- duced last October by which the first fifty calls each quarter are not charged to subscribers' ac count. Response was such that the Post Office was calculating on having to provide an additional 250.000 telephones this year.

Germany Needs Raw Materials From China

Berlin, June 11, The Chinese Finance Minister, Dr. H. H. Kung, accompanied by the Navy Minister, Admiral Chen Shao-kuan, and the Chinese Am- bassador in Berlin, was received by General Hermann Quering on Frl-. day morning at the Air Ministry.

The party later proceeded to de- neral Goering's villa, where long discussions were held.

Dr. Kung was the guest at hun- cheon of various German Astatic societies.

Yesterday evening the Chinese visitors were the guests of General Goering at Richard Strauss' opera Arabella at the State Opera House, arid took supper at the Hotel Bris- tol.

Dr. Kung honoured Germany's War dead when he placed a wreath tied with the Chinese and German national colours at the foot of the war memorial."

He was escorted by twenty Chi- nese officers and was saluted by a guard of honour of German Infan- try.

Dr. Kung also honoured the late General von Seekt by placing a wreath on his grave in the Invall- den Cemetery."

FOR MUTUAL BENEFIT The German newspapers con- tinue to play up 'the visit of Dr. Kung.

The "Frankfurter Zeitung" de- clares in a leading article that the conferences betrig" held in Berlin will be mutually beneficial to both China and Germany.

After the third resolution, the Commons passed to the considera- tion of the Physical Training and Recreation Bill, which received its third reading before the House rose. The. China will be able to supply Ger- many with great quantities of raw materials, especially when her pro- ject of agricultural development is complete and she has degun large- scale exploitation of her natural resources.

BRIGHT OUTLOOK Berlin: The visit to Berlin of the Chinese Finance Minister. Dr. H. H. Kung, is apparently to be productive of concrete results.

This Indicated in a statement to-day by the Chinese Ambassador to Germany, who said: "Politically and economically we may assume that Sino-German relations will soon be placed on a new basis. '

"I am certain that every Ger- man who recalls the post-War history of his country will sympat- hise with China, for the conditions in our two countries have been very similar.

"Germany, as an industrial coun- try needs our raw materials, and we need Germany to develop our natural resources and to export to China her goods and machinery.
