PHILIPPINE MINING
NEWS
The United Mines Associațion
47 cta.
The annual meeting, of share- holders of the Hong Kong "und" Yaumati Ferry Company was held on Saturday morning.
-The Chairman (Mr: Lau Tak-po) said: I have much pleasure in an- nouncing the conclusion of a suc- cessful working year, due to the Judicious conclusion of Important contracts for coal and supplies at very favourable rates.
The increase in receipts of the Company have been maintained and I feel that with a general im- provement in local trade condi- tions, the receipts will show a Your further increase for. 1937. Directors have therefore recoin- mended a slighter higher dividend of $1.80 on Ordinary Shares and $2.10 on the Preferential Shares.
The ferry vessel "Man Gok" was completed and put into operation during the year. The vessel has proved to be very successful both on the yehicular Service and on the Mangkok passenger service, and has enabled us to extend the Vehl- cle Service to 2 a.m. every Satur- day night."
Towards the end of the year, we reconstructed the Man Chung," one of our older double-ended ferry vessels and improved her stability and accommodation by widening the vessel by two feet. This im- provement was carried out by The Hong Kong and Whampoa Docks and effected without any loss of speed. As a result, we have con- tracted for the reconstruction and alteration of the remaining three vessels of this class, to be carried out during the current year.
IMPROVED AMENITIES During the year the Thus ter- minus at Blake Pler was moved to the Vehicular. Pler with beneficial results both to the Bus Company and ourselves. We have just con- cluded an arrangement with the Government for the construction
