New Ideas In Design And Colour

Duchame for the spring and summer puts mixtures of silk and, artifical silk woven into lines and bands which look like piping. pleating, and strapping, states the "Times." All the real slits have dull surfaces. Few are lacquered. These last have pronounced de- signs. Speaking broadly, it is the dull surface silks which will be fashionable.

Among the printed silks small conventional flowers are sparsely set on dark grounds. There are also striped silks with crossway broken lines. These are used for Informal silk dresses. Amusing snall designs are common in the Ducharne "collection. Dancing figures in white are set with geometrical precision on dark back-grounds, Groups of little red and white cottages are print- ed

Where large designs are used, as for evening dress silks and mus- lina, the drawing of the design is pronounced by a fine pen outline, broken and irregular. Small chess- men make a uniform print on dark silks. Some silks have deep borders; usually they are in flower designs. The Olympic games have provided ideas for the designers.

Shoes

In New Styles For All Climes

Shoes fascinate most Women. Some of the Coronation fashions in shoes have extra allure, as a showing of new American models in the West End just fresh from New York demonstrated the other. day, writes à Home correspondent. There were shoes for the Sunny South, or Palm Beach, or the win- ter sea cruise. according to luxury requirements or otherwise. 'There were natty American street' shoes which could be had in the пет Chinese short toed shape which are all transparent and entirely faced. This style lends itself to all sorts of colour taste.

IN RED, WHITE AND BLUE", - There were handsome red white and blue hand-inserted sequin sandals, with gold kid linings-de- signed for Coronation festivity wear. And there were elegantly fine gold and silver mesh shoes, with tiny openings for the toes, and, in one case, a large slice aut of the heel as well! Round the antle was a bow of gold kid.

Silver and black are just as fashionable in these advanced models, and there are many sm- using designs in beautiful glow ing flower patterned printed silks. These types had high heels and pointed foes,

There were high-heeled boots of fancy piqué, and cut-out sandals of linen with tiny confetti dots of bright multi-coloured felt An- other model was in wine-coloured zuede, with patterned straw-Uke bars in a new material, White, ane basket pattern was relieved by colour bands and pipinga.

One amusing Idea was shown by a straw shoe, which had patent leather tie-ups and a too-tip open- ing beyond the cross over. There is a great deal of coloured lacing, For street wear, American women in the finer weather like clear tan colour combined with white buck- akin, and the short-tee-high-heel and lacing effect are stressed in these types:

Hand-knitted clothes are brought to perfection in a amali collection by Atleen Rice. Her new stitches give style to the most simple of dresses or skirt and jacket ensem- ble. Leather belts have buttons to match in the forma of life-belts, canoes, and knobs, all in minia- ture.

Rose Valols's spring hats are mostly to be worn forward on the head. Many have broad, straight brims. Breton hats have the orims turned back at different angies, the one from the other. Cloche nats have the brim turned sharply back on one ælde. Cache. peignes of ribbon hold some of the hats firmly to the head. Pill-box toques are made entirely of How- ers.
