New Ideas In Design And Colour

Ducharne for the spring and summer puts mixtures of silk and artifical silk woven into lines and bands

which look like piping. pleating, and strupplg. qtates the ***Times," All the real silks have dull surfaces. Few are lacquered. These last have pronounced de- signs. Speaking broadly, it is the dull surface silks which will he fashionable.

Among the printed silks small conventional flowers are sparsely set on dark grounds. There are also striped silks with crossway broken Unies. These are used for informal allk dresses. Amusing small designs are common in the Ducharne collection. Dancing nigures in white are set with geometrical precisior: on dark back-grounds. Groups of little red and white cottages are print- ed on dark blue. Animals in bright colours look like flowers, they are so small, Red, white. and blue prints are frequent A suggestion of the Royal Armis comes into a floral wreath pattern. These are many closely packed Persian designs in exquisite col- purs. pink. mauve. green, yellow. Where large designs are used. as for evening dress silks and mus- King, the drawing of the design is pronounced by a the pen outline. broken and irregular. Shoes fascinate most women. Some of the Coronation fashionis in shues have extra allure, as a showing of new American models in the West End Just fresh from New York demonstrated the other day, writes a Home correspondent. There were shoes for the Sunny South, or Palm Beach, or the win- ter sea cruise. according to luxury requirements or otherwise. There were natty American street shoes which could be had in the Chinese short toed shape which are all transparent and entirely faced. This style lends itself to all sorts of colour taste.

Skirts Are To Be Short Again

Skirts in Paris are getting steadi- ly shorter, and now reach' only to within 14 in. or 16 in. of the ground.

So in order not to present an awkward silhouette, the Faris fan- hion kings have decreed that waists must go higher; says the British United Press.

On evening gowns the waista are higher than on day dresses.
