HONG KONG DAILY PRESS. THURSDAY, JANUARY 21, 1937,
"Inexplicable"
iConusued from Pare 1)
It will doubtless take some time before any oficial intimation is received from London sẽ to the success or failure of the representa- Lions which are being made to the Colonial Office for the retention in Hong Kong of the excellent ser- vices of Bir Andrew Caldecott. Should those representations fail, then there are other avenues which can properly be explored. It would not be the first occasion In British history that Members of Parliament had, as individuals as well as party politicians, bestirred themselves in the cause of a Co- lony.
Will that be necessary in this instance?

terday under the chairmanship of Mr. Li Bing-kui, at which it was unanimously decided to send a petition to the Secretary of State for the Colonies through the China Association, London, for the re- tention of Sir Andrew Caldecott, as, Governor of Hong Kong..

INSPIRED CORDIALITY
Whether any deduction may or may not be made, the fact has been noted that for some time now Glasgow firms have received com- munications from Italy written in more cordial terms than for a long time, and all of them playing on the string of Anglo-Italian friend- ship. It is possible that there is
