(BY LONGSHOREMAN)., During the 24 hours ended at 9.00 am. yesterday, the freight returns. received from the Har- bour Office, showed" a. moderately high tonnage movement a large proportion of which being contri-Yasukuni Maru, Japanese steamer. buled by Japanese ships.
The total tonnage of general to the cargo carried by vessels Colony was 8,088 tons, with British steamers carrying 3,626 tons.
Through cargo for ports be- yond the Colony amounted to 21,074 tons, of which 800 tons were carried by British steamers
Astatic deck passengers entering into the Colony during the 24 hours ended at 9.00 a.m. yesterday were 2,144. of which 435 were from British steamers.
There were altogether fifteen ärrivals, of which five were of British registry, the remainder being of other nationalities, while of the 18 departures, eight were British, ships, the rest being of other different countries.

A town deputation composed of two hundred unemployed, and organised with the approval of all parties on the local Council, left Jarrow, Durham, to-day to march to London carrying a petition to the House of Commons, 11,572 signaturės, praying for mea- sures to provide employment in the town
wholly unemployed, 232,122 tem- porarily laid off and 69,283 nor- mally in casual employment. This was 10,399 more than on August 24, but 334.271 less than on Sep- tember 23, 1936.-- British Wireless.
