BRITAIN'S COMMERCIAL AVIATION POLICY
!
While we are unable to say' with any accuracy as to the under cur- rent at Home with regard to Britain's commercial aviation po- licy we are nevertheless surprised to see a network of airways in China forming around us like a cordon and with Great Britain taking no part in the enterprise, It may be that Great Britain is taking a leaf out of the fable of the "tortoise and the hare" and is applying the policy that slow and steady wins the race. The truism may be alright, but the commer- ctal people out in Hong Kong would like to see this far flung outpost of the Empire inked with the Home country before the chances are whittled away.
In the first place we have the Fan-American Airways giving us

COCKTAILS
The Popular "Mousió" Moir and his Officers of the HMS. Orpheus rave a most successful cocktail party in the Mess at Taiko last -| Wednesday where a number of the usual cocktail party "contingent were to be found. Captain and Mrs. Coltart of course were there, she in a tailored grey suit. Mrs. Burlingham was in" a long black gown with attractive large white leeves. Mrs. Patan was in pink which suited her lovely falz co- touring so well, Mrs. Garwood and ter husband I saw also pretty Mra, Delamaine in navy blue. Mrs. Wilkinson chose a cocktall gown of green with a hat to match and came with her brother. The popu- lar Jackie Groome was much in evidence and again the "Bruce" was well represented. Mrs. St. Claire Ford was her usual attrac- tive self and was wearing flowered crepe de chine while her husband was busy na ons of the hosts. The pretty Gerrard slaters were there too and later were to be seen at the "Grips," also most other people

Our welfare.
The able letter by M. Tom former journalist in Clarke, a Hong Kong, which appeared ›ex- clusively in the Daily Press" on November 20. mentioned the fol- lowing facts:----
The Fourteenth Extra Race on Saturday at Meeting held Happy Valley drew quite a large crowd, and luckily the weather cleared up and some smart clothes were to be seen, Jarge lunch party was given by Sir WEllard and Lady Shenton, the latter ex- tremely smart in brown with a lovely silver fox fur. Amongst | some of those there were The Dowager Marchioness of Normans- by, her son the Marquis of" Nor- monsby and Mr. Darrell who are all staying in Hong Kong for a short visit, Sir William Hornell, Brigadier and Mrs, Beth Smith, Mr.. and Mrs. Croucher, she was very | striking in an ensemble of grey and cerise, Miss Cadogan also on a short visit here, Commander Hussey and Mr. Claude Burgess
*** There has, I understand, been considerable agitation in regard to the entry into Hong Kong of air services of various nationall- ties from adjacent territory, and there is no doubt that their en- try would in many ways be to the advantage of the Colony, and would provide a rauch de- sired improvement in communi- cations. Unfortunately, however, we know that the same freedom and several others. Among those is not accorded to air transport! present at the race-course. Admirni as. to sea transport. Any ship can enter any port. One can therefore understand the reluc- tance of any Government to give the right of entry to its ports, to the aeroplanes of a nation that will not give reciprocal facilities.
Sir Frederick and Lady Dreyer, we were pleased to see back once more, also Captain and Mrs. Tower, the latter looking as at- tractive as ever. Sir Atboll and Lady MacGregor were there too, also Col. and Mrs. Harrison, she to navy blue. Mrs. Persse I thought looked exceedingly nice in a tailor- ed driss of green and a smart brown bat.
