CLOSE FINISHES ORDER

OF THE DAY

Mersey And Emergency Call Dead Heated In Comrie Handicap

Close finishes were the order of the "day at the Thirteenth Extra Race Meeting of the HongKong Jockey Club held on Satur- day,

In one of the most thrilling and exciting races seen for a long time, Mersey with Mr. Delts up, and Emergency Call with Mr. Black up, dead heated for first place in the Comrie. Handicap. (2nd Section), which incidentally was the second leg of the Daily ' Double,"

Successful backers of the Daily Double were each rewarded with $79.80 a piece, while in the same race, Solar Star and The Rain Gauge also dead heated for the third place. The closeness - of the race can be gauged from the fact that there was only a short head that separated the first two places, and backers had an anxious time awaiting the decisions of the judges.

Dividends on the whole were only up to medium, while the soft condition of the track did nót help 'going much. The in- clement weather of the previous day, cleared sufflelently well for a good afternoon's racing.

The champion jockey, Mr. Leo Frost, came in with a first a second and a third, while Mr. N. Deitz came in next with a first and a second. Messrs. Ralph and Black each had a first and a third.
