FOR PEIPING

Nanking Still Entertains Hope Of Settlement

"Nanking, December 1

General Ho Ting-chin left by train last night for the North.

It is believed that his destination is Pelping. The departure of the War Minister for Peiping is generally welcomed here as an indication of the Government's determination to deal with the situation in North China.

Li

יי

Apprehension has been felt for some time owing to the de- Tay in his departure after the new appointment because there' was a feeling that the absence of any important Nanking official in the North during the present critical time would lead to in- trigues and confusion.

.........

It is generally admitted that General Ho Ying-chin's task is not an enviable one, and although hope for success is small, his sudden decision to proceed to the North indicates firstly, that the Chinese Government is not giving up hope of a settlement of the situation, and secondly, the situation is becoming acute that his immediate presence in Peiping is essential-Reu-

Prime Minister Appeals

For Newer Industries

London, November 30. Speaking at Dundee last night, the Prime Minister, Mr. Stanley: Baldwin, referred to the special areas in which the worst effects of post-war depressions have been felt and said they must have their share of newer industries.

It was intended that the share of work in connection with necessary re-equipment of defence forces would go to these areas. and he appealed to those who had benefited as a result of Gov- ernment's introduction of protection to do all in their power to see that when new works were built they were put in Durham or Lanark or South Wales or one of the other special arena, 2-
