Great Expansion

A

London, Sept. 3. "The report of the Ministry of Health for the year ended Margo 31 last gives an arresting survey of the chief deve.opments' during the 25 years of the King's reign in the Ministry's main services.

Under the National Health and Pensions' Insurance schemes-"one of most memorable developments of pubile health"-16,450,000 per: sons are insured, and in the last ten years more than £90,000,000 in medical benefit. Yet so soundly

to have. has the scheme proved been constructed that during the e of the scheme it has been found practicable to expend a total sum of over £63,000,000 in addi- tional benefits.

Health expenditure is shown to be a long-term investment of sex and age. The constitution of the population fell from 13.3 per thou- sand living in 1910 to 9.3 last year. Infant mortality in the first year, per thousand live births, fell from 105 in 1910 to 64 in 1933,

In regard to housing, the report states that some 153,000,000 acres, or more than two-irths of Eng- land and Wales, is now subject to some form of town planning con- trol-
