BURMAH OIL DIVIDEND
(Special Air Mall Service)
London, Oct. 13.
The Burmah Oll Co., yesterday declared an interim dividend of 31 pc. on the £8,868,256 Ordin- ary stock, and the price of the £i units fell 5-32 to 3 15-16. The rate of distribution compares with 5 p.c. declared twelve months ago. Siner then the Ordinary capital has been increased by a free stock bonus of 33 1-3 p.c., so that the present dividend is equivalent to the capital ranking a 5 p.c. on year ago.
In the circumstances the mar- ket's disapointment seems to have been exaggerated. Although the 1934 earnings available for Ordin- ary dividend showed an advance of about £481,000, the profits in- cluded
interest windfall of £261,086 and a refund or £125,500 from Burmah-Shell in respect of over-debits in previous years. The increase in profits also reflected
An
larger sales at lower prices, as- sisted by operating and marketing economies.
The current year's earnings are difficult to estimate: World con- sumption has grown slightly, but prices have not yet reached 'stab Elly, and the Tadian market has continued to be affected by com petition from surplus ofl from America, Rournania and Russia. The net profita, however, should be augmented by the saving from the repayment of £4,000,000 6 pe Debenture stock on Jan. 1-last The gross annual saving on this operation is nearly £220,000, and the net saving possibly as much B £100.000.
Last year's total Ordinary dis- tribution was 221 pc. equivalent to 18 7-8 p.c. on the present capital Having regard to the interest-gay- ing and other factors, there are grounds for hope that this year's total will be at least 173 p.c;
