LIGHT BLUES'

HOPES

Cambridge Need A Scrum-Half

(Special Air Mail Service)

London, Oct 13.

The outlook University

at Cambridge appears particularly bright this season, for with twelve of last year's fifteen available, the task of the captain, W. J. Leather, should present fewer difficulties

than usuaL

Nevertheless, not only are these' three vacancies important, but it is one of those years when the certainty of the old choices retain- ing their places must not be lost sight of. The three players who have gone down are: E. B. Jones, last year's captain, who led the forwards; R. C. B. Dick, centre three-quarter: and J. E. Bowedtt, the scrum half. To find a succes- sor to Bowcott is perhaps the most dimcult problem. for although there are two or three seniors of about average ability, on last sea- son's form they do not strike one as outstanding.

In the event of his being un- able to turn out in the earlier matches P. L. Candler may be an eficient substitute, although the latter may be an equally strong canditate for the third-line vacancy, where A Mcintyre may also be well tried.

The Blues available, in addition to the captain, are G. W. Parker (full-back), K, C. Fyfe, W. Wooller, Johnston (three- and W, G. 8. quarters), C. W. Jones (stand-off half, J. H. Bowman, J. R. C. Lord, A. M. Rees, R. O. Murray, C.

D. Laborde, and J. M. Grimth, At full-back Parker is unlikely to be seriously challenged, while Fyle and Johnston, on the wings, are about, as fast and strong as any in the game, to-day.

Senior's Test on Thursday The seniors match, which aperis the season on Thursday, may tell us something, as several of the players, chosen were given trials in the Lent term, and we may look forward to a good game, in which the best available talent will be engaged. The practice of making wholesale changes and bringing on reserves at half-time will again be resorted to; but there is still a feeling that one would like to see air the players tested out for the ful period instead of being with- dfawn to make way for others who come on to the field fresh for the second half,
