Stocks: We like the action of the market even though the volume of business remains small. There seems to be a better demand, for higher grade common stocks.

Corn:-The strength of the mar- ket was influenced by the bullish feed-grain situation. Reports of dust and the need of moisture in the South-West brought out cover- ing and renewed Commission House buying.

Wheat: The market advanced on the possibility of heavy wheat feeding in the United States and "n Europe owing to the feed grain situation.

Who Caused His Downfall?

London, Sept. 28." The dispute. whih began at the time and has continued intermit tently ever since as to who shot down von Richthofen, the famous German ace, is revived by "Vigil- ant" In the life of "the Red Knight" which is published to-day.

Richthofen, who had brought down no fewer than 80 Allied 'planes, failed to return from a big aerial combat over the British llnes on April 1, 1918. He was shot downi behind our lines, and the credit claimed by two Australian machine gunners, Sergt. C. B. Popkin And Gunner R, F. Western.

On the other hand, Richthofen, who was pursuing a British 'plane, was himself being pursued by a machine piloted by a Canadian, Capt. A. R. Brown, who emptied his machine gun into the famous red Fokker triplane. The Air Force held that Brown was responsible for "the Red Knight's" downfall.

"Vigilant advances the view that Richthofen's 'plane was dis- abled by the machine gunners, but that Capt. Brown, who did not realise this, put in the final burst that killed the pilot.

Capt. Brown was greatly upset at having unnecessarily caused the death of this gallant airman, who could not in any case have« avoid- ed being taken prisoner when his 'plane landed.
