There will be much "jockeying" for position at his stage, for the rains at this season do not usually begin until about two cr three in the afternoon. Hore it will be a matter of getting over a few hundred miles by starting before the six o'clock dawn and land- ing before the afternoon rains.
Many will be the perils faced by competitors, and already that of colli sion with big heavy birds of prey is the subject of an official warning. Regular pilots on the air routes to the East are familiar with this danger, for more than one machine has been damaged by striking a resentful vulture or bastard.

brisk this summer.
Lee Chee Prices Up Exports of preserved lee chee to foreign countries and other parts of the country are increasing as a result of the excellent crop during June and July. On account of the good demand from America, Spain, and the South Sea Islands, the price of preserved lee chee has slightly been increased.
The more fancied competitors at present are machines piloted by such world-wide airmen as Wiley Post, experienced British pilots such as C. W. A. Sectt, and the Dutch air liner pilots, who are acknowledged to be sacord to none on this route.
Value of Race
This great race come at an op- portune moment, for the England. Australia air route is about, to be. opened it follows that concentra- tion on the problems of the race, and meteorogical and other research in connection with it, will have perman. ent value.
Competitors are advised to acquaint themselves with all details concerning landing grounds and weather condi tions. The winners may well be those who attend to these details rather than those who happen to be lying the fastest machines.
The Australian Navy vessel Moresby will from Oct. 21 patrol the sea be- tween Koepang and Drawin, and will display lights for the guidance of competitors.
From this stage pilots who have al- ready had experience in Australian flying will have an advantage, but from Fort Drawin to Melbourne the route is being marked not only for day dying bat, by means of beacons, also for night work.
The Government of the Straits Settlements have agreed to allow com- petitors duty-free petrol. The Royal Air Force are organising a night land and starting system at Seletar and Alor Star.

Foreign Co-Operation Foreign countries on the line of the route have proved willing to co- operate in every way.
