TRAMP SHIPPING - OUTLOOK

The tramp shipping outlook. disappointing as it has been for a long time," has never been worse than it is at the presen

owners moment. A good many were heartened by the recent statement of Lord Essendon with regard to the amount of tonnage which has been broken up this years, suggesting the probability of better.. times because of the

lessening of the number of sur- plus ships. It was shown, it will be remembered, that during the first quarter of this year just under 1,000,000 tons gross had been sold to breakers, including Vessels disposed of for scrapping, but on which demolition had not Vet commenced. This compared with 1,378,183 tons gross broken up during the whole of 1932, and, of 3 million assuming a total

Axia Landa, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondente, E A. Fierce & Co. We think the market indicates an improving andertone. It was somewhat broader today but we believe it will have many cross currents, with reflecting trends in various groups. We think more attention should be given to rails, with the idea of taking

long position there.

Wheat: The market was influenced by firm cables.

Cotton: Quiet. The Undertone was steady. There was a better speculative demand. The Bureau report is expected to show an increase.

Silver: Trading was heavy. Occasional profit-taking checked the advance at times but offerings were well absorbed. The strength of the market was probably due to rumours that something would be done to rebabilitate silver.
