MUI CHEE CHEONG WINS HALF MILE IN SLOW TIME

(BY

'WATERMAN").

Yesterday, the Colony's Championship swimming meet- ing commenced at the V.R.C. and excellent sport was

seen.

W. Lawrence justified expectations by winning the 100. yards free style in 59.4 seconds, after being fourth at the 50 yards mark. He put in a tremendous' spurt in the last fifty yards to wrest the race by a touch from L. Roza Pereira.

Pereira, however, had his own back in the 100 Yards Back Stroke which he won by two-fifths of a second from Lawrence, the two swimming neck-and-neck all the way."

The Woo Challenge Cup, for Chinese swimmers, over half a mile produced four starters, who, however, cover- ed the distance in very slow time. Mui Chee Cheong of the China Athletics won the event.

Lawrence put in terrific spurt in the third length and joined Roza at the turn, while Pereira too had made up on Roza and turned. together with Lawrence. Ozorio was by now out of the race.
