feature of the 1834 carnivaly

Should the present pace continue during the months of August and September of the current produce year, a nonthly "decrease of 50,000 metric tons may result, it is cal sulated, making the total decrease for the year 1,000,000 metric tons. The large decrease has been caus- ed by the lack of trade with China, owing to the Customs tariff, ques- tion, and the slow demand of Japanese farmers, who are employ ing sulphate of ammonia instead of bean cake as a fertilizer.

Bumper Crop Expected

In view of the bumper erop ex: pected this year and the general decline in sales of beans and bean cakes, the market price of beans is expected to undergo wide fluc tuations.

The price of beaks touched the lowest level here this month. The record was 4.30 Yen per 100 kin (1 kin equalling 1.32 pounds). The average for the month was 4.46. The price has been steadily declin- ing since January, when the aver age was 5.18 for the month, with A high point of 5.27."

Next year's carnival, the direc- tors decided will give greater pro- minence to the utilitarian and less to the frolic and merry-making aspects than in previous carnivals. In line with the legislative and general governmental policy. the forthcoming carnival will endea- vour to stimulate the growth, pro-) duction and consumption of native products and home-made goods, according to Arsenio N. Luz, direc- tor general.

..

To this end, there will be con- structed inside the carnival grounds several pavillons in which the principal Industries of the country

will be housed. There will be booths

for the principal agricultural pro- ducts as rice, sugar, hemp, copra

and tobacco.

"There will also be booths for the principal Industries such as rope- making, cloth-weaving, salt indus try, marble-cutting, slipper-making hat and mat weaving.

Azia Lands, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. Unsettlement is apparently not due to any particular adverse news; such set-backs tend to develop in a market of this type. We think that selective parchasing will continue to develop on moderate recessions.

Wheat: The early strength has disappeared, with easier Liverpool, Winnipeg and Argentine markets. Support will keep the market from declining under its own weight.

Cotton: There has been hedge selling and long liquidation, in con- junction with a diminished speculative demand. There has been no news of importance to encourage trading,

Silver: Prices opened higher, reflecting the advance in London and higher foreign exchange cables. There was one order to buy forty con- tracts for January at 38.04 cents which was filled by scattered selling: Business Done: 1,250,000 shares.
