A debit balance of £14,499 is re- ported by the Peiping Syndicate for the year to June 30, 1932, against credit of £8,000 for 1930-31. After crediting difference in ex change of £5,656 and charging £71,356 for investment deprecia- tion, credit balance of £9,234. brought in from 1930-31 is convert ed into debit of £71,163. As this deficit is due to investment depre. ciation and is not a realised loss, it is carried forward instead of being extinguished by a transfer from reserve.

ASSETS HALVED DURING 1932

WASHINGTON, July 1, THE fact that the total assets of Messrs. Kuhn, Loch & Com- pany, a leading American banking firm, declined more than £6,000,000, or 50 per cent, in 1939, was reveal- ad in the Company's balance sheet submitted to, the United States Senate enquiry yesterday.
